Palm Canyon Theatre is bringing the Tony Award winning musical “Cats” to Palm Springs from October 2 through October 11.
Cats is based on T.S. Eliot’s whimsical collection of poems, Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s popular musical brings together a tribe of Jellicle Cats on a moonlit evening, who must make the “Jellicle choice” to decide which of them will ascend to the mysterious Heaviside Layer to be reborn. Featuring such celebrated standards as the haunting “Memory”, Cats is an international phenomenon and the second-longest-running show on Broadway (recently ceding its “first” status to The Phantom of the Opera in 2006). It has been performed around the world many times and has been translated into more than 20 languages. In 1998, Cats was turned into a made-for-television film.
“Cats is directed and choreographed by Se Layne. Cast includes J. Stegar Thompson as Gus - the theatre cat, Nicholas Sloan as the flashy tomcat - Rum Tum Tugger, Julie Rosser as the former glamour cat - Grizabella, Ben Reece as Skimbleshanks - the railway cat.
“Cats” runs from Friday, October 2 through Sunday, October 11. Showtimes are Thursdays at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $36 and $32 for seniors.
